the technology worked at larger cell sizes and at 16kilobit prototype chip.
I also once got an inside word from a previous imec R&D engineer who confirmed that the technology works.
it is mostly an engineering challenge to reach smaller cell scales, and larger arrays. Currently 40 nanometres and going for 1Mb array test chip. There is inherently more complexities introduced as you make the bloody thing smaller... But.. part of the eng challenge.
One day they will scale to 10nm and GB arrays. But that will become the job of the acquiring party.
All 4DS needs to do is prove the 1Mb level.
This will be enough proof for the acquirer.that day is drawing closer.
