Oneclip, I agree with your sentiments about metalstorm being silly about not protecting their patents, even if they no longer use the wedge sealing method, it has basically given the competition a heads up two years in advance that they can use this tech.
Having said that the newer discrete foil sealed propellants loads are a much better option, this is where they get to have a choice of velocity (KE) or a selection of range with the firing of just one projectile not two or more.
This leads into another are here though that is one "very" important technology that definitely does not use wedge sealing now, it did initially in the "BIG BERTHA" version but the tech was passed on to the Oz DSTO for refinement, they developed a fully working demo prototype up to 60mm, so basically all calibers up to 60mm can now use this tech, once all testing and data was collected by the DSTO the tech was handed to the US for further development and ""platform integration"", I would hazard a guess here and say that possibly this is the most advanced tech that metalstorm is connected with right now, hence we get to see little snippets about things like Hyperburst etc,but this is just low caliber stuff, you can't seriously tell me the Yanks would not have developed mach 5/50 tech further to much larger calibers?
Someone posted a topic her on HC on the metalstorm thread about DDG Destroyers, they say they are developing a rail gun for them, well lets look at this, the mach 5/50 program is far better in some ways than the rail gun tech , ok it isn't quite as fast, but it is much much better than anything else out there now and it works RIGHT NOW, it doesn't suffer from rail degradation, it doesn't require a HUGE power supply, but it is far far cheaper, it is much lighter, and you could have a number of these on one destroyer and fire them all at once if you wanted to?
You tell me which system would you go with?
We all know that metalstorm can't talk about it and the Yanks certainly won't tell us, that is a given, but when (not IF) they use it, they will have to pay for the privilege, is this the reason why metalstorm aren't overly concerned about dilution? because this technology is worth billions alone?
Oneclip, I agree with your sentiments about metalstorm being...
