Good morning all politics posters,

Admin has received a recent query on the more extreme terms such as “tea partiers”, “tea party types”, “comrade”, “communist”, etc, so after discussion in the mods room the following guidelines have been decided and will take effect from now on.

It is quite acceptable to talk about these words in a non-inflammatory manner, but it is not acceptable to direct these as insults, broadside or individually, at other member/s with the insinuation that they are extremists.

As the majority of posters are unlikely to be extreme in their political leanings, and in all likelihood there are probably many swinging voters who post here, it can become an insult to be labelled extreme.

There are likely many alternative words capable of labelling others as extremists or talking down (such as leftard, rightard) and these types of insults need to stop. Debate robustly with good manners and please respect that others genuinely have their beliefs even when they differ to your own.
