GOT have been granted exploration license over the tenements surrounding Groote Eylandt which they believe holds and extension of the resource being mined by GEMCO on the island
The issue is the TO (Traditional Owners) that our aboriginal population hold free title to the land and low water mark and have to this point shunned any advance by GOT to include them in the exploration/mining process - GOT legally do not have to do this but recognise that access to infrastructure on the land is important and so are keen to have the TO's blessing
The company has completely lost its way when it comes to investor or shareholder relations and has been quite evasive and point blank refuse to answer emails or phone call (I would add this is my experience which may or may not be shared)
They have the option of going to Maria Island 140 k's away where Native Title is less of a problem
They have appointed Lloyd Jones who is highly experienced in dealing with TOs and according to Yilyanga GOT have been working hard behind the scenes (whatever that means)
Speculative at best but if successful the end game will make it all worth while
As I posted in my previous post the Northern Territory government is the key here - if they want mining to occur then the influence and power that the TOs have or "think" they have will have to be wound back and a songline will no longer be a reason not to explore or mine - this will be incredibly offensive to some TOs while others will not be concerned but the anti GOT/mining (read that as Yilyanga if you like) would milk it for all its worth
In the end the mainstream will prevail and these arguments will be dealt with one at a time - the question is will GOT be around at the time
