I totally agree. There should be an east-west and probably a north-south high voltage power line accross Australia. The northern part of Australia is very rich in not only solar, but also hydro - look at the rain falling now - if only 1 percent of that could be utilised in the central parts it would be an agricultural bonanza.
The Ord river scheme proved that the concept can work - its just an engineering problem to resolve it.
Additional benefits would include building redundancy into the power supply - when the sun dont shine here - it does over there - and of course GDY would provide the backup energy :)))
