Railways and ports have been touched on in other threads but some of these threads are getting a bit long and drawnout.

A good plug if you can call it a plug for the Chinese on Your Money Your Call last week. Both the guest hosts on that show mentioned the ability of the Chinese to "cut through" the red tape when it comes to their infrastructure requirements in Africa. Both guys mentioned several times that if a railway or port or both is needed to get their stuff to china then they will just build them without all the fanfare or hassles of the west.

Seeing that STB basically has a railway, although in varying stages of disrepair, we must remember that in old colonial Africa, the British. French, Italians & Germans, built their infrastructure to their own very high standards. The british learned this from the Romans and many roads in England are still sitting on old Roman road base. The Italians in Eithiopia I doubt were any different.

I beleive our railway would still be structurally sound and any upgrade would be mostly cosmetic. Someone with deep pockets would not see this as a hinderance to getting on with it.

Likewise the port. If its not deep enough now...It soon will be. They will just do it.
