I have trawled the net countless times for any concrete indication of this; to no avail. Only once did a GSK spokesperson say they were "working on it" but it was at least 2 years away.

To my mind it is simply criminal, as if it was available it would almost certainly have saved the lives of the victims of bird flu who had Tamiflu resistant H5N1. Injectable Relenza has been produced and used on healthy volunteers where it was shown to be safe and effective, in the last millenium. (Truly. About 1996 I think.) Interestingly one of the major scientists in the injectable relenza study is a Dr Hayden, who has recently obtained one of the top WHO positions in pandemic influenza response. This makes me hopeful that somehow it can be produced a lot faster than 2 years as Dr Hayden might be in a position to push for injectable Relenza better than anyone.

I am hopeful GSK are secretly working on it and that it is released for use much sooner than in 2 years time.
