If they are HP,
Rub the head gently on a flat piece of A4 paper, the abrasive action of the paper usually does it. Also you should see small hole on the top of the cartridge, give it a blow gently taking care not to get ink all over the place, same deal if it is Lexmark. If it is Epson or Canon throw them in the bin.
