GRNSW Opens Inquiry Into Wentworth Park IncidentWritten by: GRNSW

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has opened an inquiry into an incident that occurred in race 5 at Wentworth Park on Saturday, 26 December 2015.
In that event, GRNSW Stewards, acting under GAR 64 (1), disqualified the winning greyhound Il Bacaro (8), trained by Anthony Azzopardi, after it was detected through the post-race identification process that the incorrect greyhound contested the race. The greyhound which incorrectly competed in the race was Asa Killa Queen, trained by Anthony Azzopardi.
After the error was discovered, GRNSW Stewards commenced an immediate investigation including interviewing the two identification officials as well as the licensed participant responsible for presenting Il Bacaro at the meeting in question.
Acting under LR 92 (1) (a), Il Bacaro and Asa Killa Queen are now subject of inquiry and will be ineligible to compete in any event until the inquiry has been completed.
GRNSW has also ordered an urgent review of the GRNSW Greyhound Racing Rules, particularly GAR 56 (2) (a) which determines what constitutes a non-starter in a specific event.
As the greyhound was disqualified and not declared a non-starter in the event at Wentworth Park no monies wagered on Il Bacaro were eligible be refunded.
