Hi fusers

You're right there about the low upfront cost compared with long term value. Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as you make out. We want to build standard high quality product across the UK. However, due to local energy requirements embroiled in Planning Policy, we need to alter out energy/CO2 saving strategy on an almost site by site basis. This is in response to Gov PPS22. Some want 10% energy from renewables, others want 25% reduction in CO2 in some cases both. Furthermore there is no mechanism in place to ensure we have actually delivered the agreed target. It is a sham!!
The added cost of these targets can reach 5-7K per plot and these policies as imposed on sites that we bought some time ago. Anyway, the upshot is our return is diminished on account of these extra costs, and the customer will not be interested in the Eco cred of the home compared with upgades in tile, kitchen or bathroom spec. They would rather spend the money on these items.
This is why we look for the most cost effective compliant bit of kit that meets the requirement. The use of a product that CFU will hopefully bring to market, is that it will meet most policy requirements on a regular basis, so we have a standard solution that isn't influenced by orientation or limited demand (solar hot water). Anything extra, just sell back.
