For several decades now the eastern seaboard has played a very second fiddle to Western Australia and particularly the North West wrt energy and mineral wealth and associated royalties and regional economic stimulus.
Forever the bridesmaid ... the low speed of the two speed economy ... the anchor.
No government ... I repeat no government ... as in no NSW, Qld or Federal government is going to pass up the economic lifeline that the Gladstone hub has created.
Didn't the Metgasco presentation mention east coast gas providing 18,000 jobs ... imagine the good cheer this will create in regional businesses from the Gallilee, Bowen, Surat and Clarence Morton Basins over a decade or more to construct and the 4 or more decades to operate.
Environmental and social issues will be resolved and everyone will be happy ... the pollies wouldn't have it any other way!
Imo, the NSW govt in particular cannot contemplate life w/o Metgasco gas, associated economic stimulus and of course the royalties.
At some point within the next 1-2 years I reckon the Clarence Morton Basin will be upgraded to "significant project" status.
