Is it insider trading if people (who don't work in the mining or finance industries) hear rumours around Perth social media of a mineworker with Covid-19, have these rumours semi-confirmed with the announcement that the WA Premier will have a press conference, and sell their FMG shares (or buy put options) so quickly that FMG's share price dropped from $24.21 at 3:41pm to $24.13 at 3:50pm before (after the news wasn't that bad) closing at $24.16?
More generally, is it insider trading if somebody immediately responds to the vague public announcement of a press conference after seeing precise posts in a local Facebook group? Has ASIC ever prosecuted somebody for this? Thankyou.
