tried one of the cheaper reds tonight - went for the platinum vintage high vine shiraz. goes for the princely sum of $4.59 a bottle by the carton after discount. (23% off if buying 12 or more.)

for a random cheap bottle I wasn't expecting much, if it turned out to be crap then I could live with losing the outlay. was the bottle an under rated gem? no. was the bottle as rough as 20 grit sandpaper? oddly enough it wasn't quite that bad. sure enough I've had worse - Wolf Blass red label comes to mind - yet I've also had better for the price. good for the snobby drinker in your group that doesn't want to be seen with chateau carboard - but not good for much else.
