"potash in the brine in the deep drilling by sight"
the buried stuff isn't brine ie liquid & from my limited knowledge, we are looking at a salt which needs to be analysed to establish it's composition.
But I would think that a simple chemical field test would be available (similar to testing swimming pool water)
