Interesting article and chart here on the growth of Instagram user numbers particularly prior to its takeover by Facebook for $US1 billion in April 2012.

The Instagram growth curve looks eerily similar to the MIG growth curve at the corresponding stages. Will be interesting to see whether MIG continues on the same trajectory.
Until the takeover Instagram were not reporting monthly active users (MAU) but rather registered users; and they had 40 million of those. If we assume that equated to 25 million MAU then that would be a value of $US40 ($A48) per MAU. We all know that the market more highly values an MAU in 2014 but could this be our baseline?
