I have a simple mind and will comment here probably on the blatant obvious but will do so to get this thread going.

The US has not had a major disaster since Katherine and the insurers have had a good run. Higher payouts are probably due.

In Oz, we have had our fair share of floods, winds, fires etc of late that I think we are in a better position. This is based on the law of probability. I think Buffett warns of the effects of global warming on insurance companies. To combat this, I dont see why insurers would not just up the premiums should claims be more common than not. They have done so in the past and will continue going forward. OK, maybe some will decide not to ensure, however, when properties and cars are financed, it is mandatory to gave full cover hence this area I consider safe.
