Whether or not it is popular, the idea is an integrity commission is a good one. The only problem, like so many of Australia's institutions, will be trying to ensure that it itself will be corruption-free. I have to laugh when they talk about "independent auditors/adjudicators" when we all know that nothing is totally independent. At the end of the day, the people that will work for the integrity commission will be biased from the outset, will never bite the hand that feeds them, will be susceptible to threats, bribes etc, no different than Mafia-style coercion and subject to often outdated laws that nobody cares to update.
