I don't want to be patronising, but the usual post I get is one calling ERG a dog or some such.....
I have got so used to that your posts have taken me aback.
Re intellect....ERG is flat out trying to conserve whatever little money they have....
Nearly every transit project worldwide is running behind schedule and it is AFC provider who is footing the bill...
They must see light at the end of the tunnel....otherwise why would they bother?
ATM ERG is concentrating wholeheartedly on getting TRANSIT up and running in ...............

The projects aleady done in HK and Singapore while magnificent examples of AFC in operation, apparently did not prepare ERG for the vicissitudes of western cities.
All the points you make about various ways of contactless payment just shows you what a complex field ERG is in.
Look at Rome. There are sitting on $30M that belongs to ERG, but changes of Govt mean that ERG has to wait.
