    I do not believe it a gross generalization.

    You make a claim taht there have always been people who did not believe, prove it. I can point to a whole history fo people who believed as I have said.

    With regard to the Chruch and the flat world, why blame the Church for it? It was accepted by all and sundry. Sure they got Galileo wrong, and JP II has acknowledged, but that was more to do with preserving content of the faith than any thing else. The Catholic Church has always been concerned to preserve the deposit of faith - what the church believes Christ taught. It was actually the Church that made the discovery possible by its encouragement of science. When will atheists admit they made a mistake? I suspect human pride will get in the way, and besides, there is no organization to speak for atheism.

    I read that you said your father was an ex-catholic priest. Not knowing the circumstances (which I have no wish to know) He at least once believed it all. I hope and pray he did not give up on it, despite his difficulties.
