To be self righteous is to think oneself to be more virtuous than others - to be narrow-mindedly moralistic.
Not sure how you can apply that label.
Rather than be complacent and complicit on what she had recognised to be wrong with her world, Severn at a very young age chose to actively do something about her beliefs....and still continues to do so.
Perhaps that is why many religion institutions become unstuck....to caught up in proving their virtuosity rather than serving the greater good.
