the reasons for the rise include a range of factors:

• returning to 'normal' levels of interest after the emergency lows the world had to use to manage the covid recession
• risk of falling AUD due to lower than other nations' interest rates
• depressing inflationary pressures
• providing some returns to interest-bearing deposits which many on pensions rely upon

etc.....
