Absolutely. I have not seen any announcement but the PDF next to the plant was suppose to be done a year ago. At a cost of US $1,000,000. Totally Built by a MAL company. Here is the PDF summery for the original contractor Only major problem is the site selected by Lynas was deemed expensive the contractor instead chose to build one adjacent to plant. Here is the original PDF https://wcsecure.weblink.com.au/pdf/LYC/02197076.pdf
The whole Thorium issue was crazy from start. After The Mitsubishi disaster instead of putting in laws to closely monitor Waste handling they lowered the limit for radiation substantially from the international accepted limits. Lynas was well within international limits not the MAL ones. It was never about common sense it is about peoples fears.
This is common everywhere. For example. For example look at Nuclear. There have been a couple of really spectacular accidents that until now have stopped nuclear development and even shut down plants running well. Many people living downwind from Coal or oil fueled power stations have lots of lung dieses.
For a local issue Take MAD, Mothers Against Drunk driving, In Us the limit use to be 0.12% About 2 beers in an hour. When there are a couple of fatalities caused by drunks over 0.2 or 0.3 They lobby to lower limit.. Never improve enforcement Now the limit in most states is 0.08 Which means depending on person a single beer can put you over. Still poor enforcement. A 120 LB female will fail every time. 200 LB male never with a single beer. beer.
Common sense has nothing to do with it at all! 100% emotion. The Restriction on Lynas have been eased a lot. A few are still there. The whole reason for KAL was because Lynas thought they would never be able to operate as they want with C&L in MAL. Just a small A$800M + expense. A very big impact on long term profits. We will start to see this in FY 2026.
For record i have never been stopped or checked for DWI. I now only drink at home or with a DD. I do volunteer to be the DD.
