Pre backing, More new filter Materiels for SX than I can count, Most require changes to chemicals used and changes to the solvent process. The use of catalyst. I mentioned Electrolysis to recover water and Solvents in my first post but you must have missed that, MP is using it very successfully. Pre roasting concentrate before SX. Not just backing concentrate, it allows a different extraction process with lower costs.
Finally but not last Ucore as a column extraction process that is much lower cost, both CAP X and production. They have chosen to do just heavies from other peoples separation of the lights because there is far less competition in this space. There is noting that indicates that this could not be modified and scaled up to do LREE. here is a description from Ucore's Website https://ucore.com/rapidsx/
JMO if I am interpreting your tone correctly you do not have other ideas. I find this space technically exciting and evolving quickly. Lynas has a problem there 20 + year old design needs upgrading which would take lots of cash, it would also require the righting off A$ 1.56B of plant and equipment see note 9 page 26 of SAR which they cannot due with out putting company deeply in dept and selling lots of stock. they are now down to A$270M which is not even enough in my opinion to finish Texas if USG does not produce more money. The do need to keep some reserves. Trouble with being first is you often have an anchor stopping change as better methods come along. Not unique at all to Lynas been a problem for all early implementers in successful segments for a long time. Success means many new and exciting ideas.
If I am wrong about your attitude I am sure you will post quickly your ideas that are better so we will all know I am wrong and what your idea is.
Pre roasting is from China. When they started importing REE concentrate from around the world, I think furthest was Greenland, Weight at this distance is more important so the roasted to dry out all moisture. They found their SX lines could not handle it. When they started investigating changes to process, they came up with more efficient methods. Since MP only had some old MCP refining that was written down during MCP BK they scrapped it and adopted the process for Roasted Concentrate.
