This morning's Oz has an article on the Tuna fishers threatening to move to South Africa if the iron ore project goes ahead as the iron ore dust reaching the water would cause algal blooms. They have probably noticed the common roof colour in Whyalla down the road with nearly a century of shipping iron ore, though I was not aware of algal blooms there. Indeed they host a very successful snapper fishing contest each year and the seas near the steelworks are world famous for cuttlefish breeding, there are also resident dolphins in the harbour a couple of hundred metres from the pellet plant. However, the political shenanigans are upon us especially if CXM want to share the wharf with grain and fish for the next five years before moving to Proper Bay. They will have to demonstrate how they can load boats without undue dust, I hope they can. The people of Port Lincoln would far rather be famous for Tuna than for being an iron ore port, I am sure.
I do not hold shares in any Eyre Peninsula companies. This is for info as the article is easy to miss.
