Basically updating the lighting in my home. Four new lights put up and a swap over of the light switchs (16). No rewiring beyond the 4 lights. It took the sparkie and his sidekick 3 days - of course that was spread over 2 weeks as they couldn't work more than a couple of hours at a time and went awol for days without warning. Location - eastern suburbs of Sydney.
The worst tradie experience I have had is trying to get a stonemason to sell me a small marble offcut (1200mm x 600mm) to replace my hearth. Not one single one would sell me an offcut - all wanted to cut it out of a full slab and install it. The quotes for this all came in over $3K and one bozo wanted to charge me $450 to remove the old hearth which literally took me 10 minutes to do. In the end I removed the hearth myself and cleaned the original 19thC sandstone that was underneath - looks quite nice.
