Elysian, The Chinese people are, but the leadership on both sides tends(including the US leadership) to get in the way.
My guess is that the economic integration will continue and will lead any political integration for a number of years more.
The Taiwanese will watch what happens in Hong Kong for quite a while to get a firmer grasp on consequences of any political integration steps. That still has a number of years to play out, but so far signs are not that positive for a quick integration.
