Monologues are a form of stage or screen media that have never had a large presence, or so it seems to me. However, when you find a very good writer, as here with Alan Bennet, and gather together a group of excellent actors capable of giving solo performances, the result can be absorbing. These were originally made for television but work equally well as sound pieces. I had the full collection on VCR at one time and always regretted losing them.
