Lithiums biggest advantage is one that by any of today's technologies it simply can't be replaced and that is lithiums position on the periodic table.
For the best compact and light weight energy storage lithium just can't be beat.
Our biggest revolution will be electric cars (even supercars), busses and trucks (especially with the high torque thatthat elec motors give), and to a lesser extent maybe home storage as well for the compactness.

I love seeing that lithium has been proven in SA to be a great option in grid storage also but unfortunately for most grid storage systems around the world there is little need to be compact, light or even the most efficient. They can always just plonk a good enough storage system into a bigger empty field or whatnot and use a much less and much cheaper material and compensate by making it 5 times larger, if necessary. Lithium will of course play a part in this but this isn't something that we can bank on long term.
But electric vehicles cannot look past that number 3 spot on the periodic table if they want quality and the vehicle revolution will happen faster than anyone is predicting IMO. Once spending $100 on fuel a week is no longer seen as necessary then it will start to feel more like paying a pain in the arse phone bill, but only it comes 4 times more often and then the dominos will fall for ICE.

When Bertha Benz completed the first long haul drive of a ICE car there were no petrol stations in the world, no roads in the world and not even a petrol tank in the car yet the revolution happened in the blink of an eye. In comparison the electric revolution is infinitely less complicated.
We are at the start of the hockey stick and it's gonna be steeper than anyone realizes.

    IMO!
