I have the same concerns. It is difficult to find how much of the AI work is being outsourced by these large tech firms. Some insightful comments will be appreciated.
Others on this forum have said that a bulk of the work gets outsourced but there are no statistics or reports to back up this claim. If we could find some evidence (e.g. referencing to outsourcing in Alphabet's report or similar), that will bring more clarity to the situation. I did do a search for Appen in the Alphabet report but to no surprise nothing showed up. We are too small a subcontractor to get a mention.
Not sure if anyone has gone through the Appen annual reports. In one report I read ( I think it was the latest one) that 89% of our revenue was generated off a single company!!!!) It would be good to know which company that was. Also scary thinking if that company went else where we wont even have a firm left.
