it's easy to see where the problem is, right there just a few lines down from the beginning.
"There are African Americans, Mexican Americans,
Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc.
And then there are just Americans"
In many other countries, those in SE Asia come to mind, people identify firstly with their nationality, and secondly by their ethnic origins, eg Singaporean Chinese, etc etc.
Are our indigenous people Australian Aboriginals, or Aboriginal Australians?
How people perceive themselves is what it all comes down and decides whether that personal perception becomes a bridge or a barrier, not for others, but for themselves.
