Some 20 years ago now, I visited a site in New Mexico where EMP testing was carried out. An extremely large hole was dug out of the ground; you could say it resembled a hemisphere. Then a timber structure was built without any metal components, instead of bolts, timber plugs were used. I was told that the amount of timber used to enable a platform to be built was the equivalent of 12 months supply of lumber produced in the United States.
Large bombers were pushed out into the centre of the structure and the EMP testing was carried out.
The US was very serious in those days.
