If you are starting out, do less day trades and seek value in fundamentals.
My rationale (and I may be wrong) is day traders get exposed to more buy/sell pressures in volatility. And unless you possess sound knowledge in interpreting technical indicators, emotions can stuff up most of your investment decisions.
Long term may be boring but it may smooth out most of the price swings.
Again, BLY holds great value and at the same time can be a cool day trader's dream stock.
