Interesting to see Canada's response to the tariffs. Within the announcement they are considering restricting the supply of critical minerals to the US.
What is critical minerals? I don't think that will be rare earths. As what trade is there between Canada and US regarding rare earth ore, separated oxide, or finished metal?
Likely a veiled threat regarding crude oil.
However, we now need to see what China's response is.
If Canada are prepared to openly threaten critical minerals to an ally. Something tells me rare earths will likely end up in Chinese retaliation.
Needless to say if Trump continues to push down his path he will need to find a way to bring friendly rare earth supplies (domestically or internationally) in the US to support a renewed US manufacturing base. (Which I believe is his intended goal by using tariffs).
Strap in and ears to the ground.
