First I admit that I never liked mild 48 volt hybrids. I often tried to make AUS understand because of currents involved they would never have as much power as a Sit down home lawn mower. in all hybrids electric motor size to weight is critical. A lot has happened since the 3 of us had all our discussions. First 48 volt Hybrids did not make it as you and I said. They are only in a few big vehicles like top of the line MB and Ram trucks. Even a casual look at specs shows no improvement in MPG or Reduction in emissions for these large vehicles. The only reason I can think for this is if they do not put them in something, all the R&D has to be written of in one big chunk. Where as long as it is being shipped it is amortized over time. So put them in something expensive so no one cares about cost.

Something else is happening, the motors and batteries are becoming smaller in HEVs. HP is down to 25 ~ 30 HP. Just a little larger than 48 volts. there are multiple reasons. First the technologies for absorbing braking energy and storing it have improve a lot. meaning small motors and batteries work better. Second vehicles are becoming lighter meaning that smaller motors and batteries do very well, it has aways been about vehicle weight to perm magnet motor size. A big part of this is ICE motors have vastly improved power weight rations. The ICE is being designed to optimize fuel efficiency in hybrids. Toyota is a leader in this use google to see some of what they have done.
With these changes all your fears of 48 v HEVs probably are no longer valid especially belt drive.

I would also like to point out that EVs took off even better than you Predicted. I posted that I was wrong about this. Suddenly people and especially the press have soured on EVs. They have soured for the reasons I predicted. High cost of Maintenace which you always said would be near Zero. And charging. This is why just under 50 % of Tesla owners would not buy another one. Long term EVs will be 90 % or more of the Market/ Of this I have no doubt. But it will take much longer than many on this board believe especially you. With the shrinking of motor HP in HEVs they will not have even 10 % of the impact on magnet demand as an EV.

I have no animosity towards AUS. Other than 48 MH he had many valid points. He is posting infrequently. Why can you not let it go? Sounds to me like you have some problems in this area, not sure what they are.
