Thousands of automobile enthusiasts braved frosty and snowy weather to throng the Cobo Center, Detroit, on the opening day of the North American International Auto Show on Saturday, January 17. The show was thrown open to public nearly a week after an exclusive right of entry for the media, as well as industry insiders.
Sam Locricchio, the Show spokesman, said organizers are anticipating almost 700,000 people to visit Cobo for witnessing the show, which will run through January 25.
On display at the venue in downtown Detroit are about 700 vehicles, out of which the 50 unveiled ones include hybrids, plug-in hybrids or pure E.V.’s, and advanced high-mileage cars, by leading automobile companies like Toyota, Ford, General Motors, and Honda. The automakers vowed to bring the new technologies to 2010-12.
