    The early Christian Church flourished in present day Greece and Turkey, so outside the area of the jewish authorities.

    As for the Romans, the Emporer Trajan made it clear that “These people must not be hunted out; if they are brought before you and the charge against them is proved, they must be punished ........ But pamphlets circulated anonymously must play no part in any accusation. They create the worst sort of precedent and are quite out of keeping with the spirit of our age.” Letter 97, Book 10 of The Letters of the Younger Pliny.

    Hardly to be regarded as a dangerous cult. Nor did Pilate want to punish Jesus. In the end, it was another Roman emporer that legitimised Christianity by making it compulsory.
