    International Flow Battery Forum
9-11 July 2019 in Lyon, France

    2019 Conference Programme
    IFBF 2019 – Lyon, France
    9th – 11th July
Our programme this year develops our theme of “making electricity flow” with a look at what is happening in the industry from the perspectives of manufacturers, developers and users of flow batteries.  We will be looking at the business case for long duration energy storage, and flow batteries in particular with case studies from around the world.  With increased pressure on reducing costs and increasing performance, we will listen and discuss all aspects of research, development, and deployment, both in plenary and in a poster session.

Recent progress in the flow battery industry and news of recent flow battery installations with speakers representing international companies including Avalon Battery, Canada; H2 Inc, South Korea; VRB Energy, China; Redflow, Australia; Volterion, Germany, Eni, Italy and SEI, Japan.

Promoting the business case for flow batteries and long duration storage with contributions from UET, USA; Schmid Energy Systems, Germany; redT, UK as well as speakers from Kemiwatt, France; and Lockheed Martin, USA.  We also have market insights from Mexico, Russia and the Middle East.

Our technical sessions will cover materials and components with presentations from Chemours, Membrion; Zoltek and Elestor; and discussions on new formats for electrodes and manufacturing processes.  Our sessions on flow battery operation and flow battery systems will include contributions from Trumpf Huttinger, AvCarb and J Schmalz as well as analysis and research on performance of flow batteries under dynamic loading conditions, thermal management and control of hydrogen production. Professor Michael Aziz of Harvard University will present a keynote introduction to organic flow batteries and introduce contributions from JenaBatteries, the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, EPFL, Switzerland and IFPEN.

We also include discussions on battery recycling, supply of raw materials including vanadium and bromine salts as well as presentation of less familiar concepts in flow batteries, such as zinc iron chemistry and tubular configuration, with delegates from many of the leading research institutions in flow batteries such as the University of New South Wales, Fraunhofer ICT, Politecnico de Milano, Paul Scherrer Institut, and Bar Lian University.

Our provisional list of sessions and speakers can be downloaded here
