Fluorides are used in larger amounts in aluminium smelters to produce metallic aluminium safely for many years. HF is also used by small gold miners to seperate rocks stuck to gold nuggets. Miners are familiar with the safe use of fluorides.
Aluminium chemicals are a valuable byproduct of lithium processing, and in strong demand for light weight applications in electric vehicles.
It is interesting that gold is also found in areas overlapping or near lithium ore discoveries. Hence, small amounts of gold could likely be a good byproduct of lithium processing!
