No gold mine would ever use hydrofluoric acid (HF) - too expensive.
No prospector can use it - need a license.
Only used to clean mineral specimens or large nuggets for ornamental purposes by experienced chemists in suits and labs.
Cryolite, the fluoride mineral added to aluminium smelting, is comparatively inert and does not produce HF. Quite the opposite in fact - synthetic cryolite can be made from HF.
Do not confuse fluoride and fluoride minerals with HF.
