its free to open an international trading account with commsec. its called a Pershing account. but fees include USD$25 a year if you hold a share but is inactive for the year. also theres some tax forms you need to submit every 3 years if not you would be subject to 30% withholding from usa treasury. U.S Trades may be placed online or over the phone. The cost is the same either way. Non-US trades ie ; Canada must be placed over the phone with a customer service representative.
