Public broadcasting is accelerating the decline of traditional TV and the newspaper industry.
Why is ABC/SBS getting subsided A$1.4 billion per annum in this day and age? This isn't black and white TV of the 1950s anymore, yet ABC/SBS is feather-bedded and made untouchable.
abc.net.au is essentially an online newspaper. It also has a 24hr News channel when the free-to-air networks (excl. Sky's 24hr news) provide news almost throughout the day. Then there is ABC2, ABC ME, ABC Kids + online streaming through iView. Plus there is up to 5 radio stations in the major cities. SBS also isn't needed when most people stream cultural TV through online providers like Netflix and Stan.
