Good advice for grahod, but turn modem off for more than 30 min.
Had same problem last month, with old (very first adsl modem), isp said they switch internally now to jamb more down the pipe. Switching off for 30 min is longer than their "internal" jumping and re-sets system.
My system, under the new ISP regime, tries to re-connect each time you access now, can't see it my end but told I had 8 connections at their end.
I'm told that re-addressing "coms" settings and a "new" modem/router will fix also. Great, we're back to the old dial-up problem caused by the ISP's themselves ... Don't fight it, you will not win, switch off for 35 mins every second day, or go the whole hog if you have to ...
