Canadian independent InterOil has started drilling a two-well appraisal programme on its Antelope gas field onshore Papua New Guinea.
The New York- and Port Moresby-listed explorer spudded Antelope 4 about a kilometre south of Antelope 2.
The appraisal probe, which is the most southerly to be drilled at the Elk-Antelope field to date, is to be followed by Antelope 5, later this year, InterOil said.
The appraisal efforts are part of a $300 million exploration and appraisal programme that aims to better define the size of the field ahead of a planned LNG development.
A trio of exploration wells, Bobcat, Raptor and Wahoo, are also being drilled in search of what the company sees as enormous remaining potential in the area.
