My guess, purely speculative.

A BP with deep pockets and not currently in the antidepressant market may see some interest in the obtuse results readout. Offers to provide funding to help support the AD trial program, in return for some kind of equity interest in the case of positive Ph2b AD results.

Somewhat of an insurance punt on a molecule that is emerging with some promise - though what that promise is remains clouded. But there are seemingly some interesting breadcrumbs to follow if you can convince your Board to shell out only a couple hundred $k for now.

Of course, I could just be dreaming….
