POLITICAL CELEBRITIES ATTEND EAVOR INAUGURATION CEREMONY IN GERETSRIED

In addition to the Federal Chancellor, Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) and the Federal Minister for Research and Education Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP) also attended the project inauguration.

The politicians were impressed by the technology and its potential. Söder emphasized the success of the Bavarian mixture of tradition and technological progress and said: "In Bavaria we are practically sitting on a hot-water bottle". Chancellor Scholz explained that geothermal energy is an "obvious" choice as part of the energy transition, since it is always there. Looking at the expansion of geothermal energy in Germany, he said that 12 new geothermal plants are under construction in Germany and 82 more are planned "So that's going pretty well, but there's more to come."

Daniel Mölk, Managing Director of Eavor Technologies GmbH, and the CEO of the Canadian mother, John Redfern, also spoke to the guests. Eavor has been preparing the drilling site in Geretsried, Upper Bavaria, since October 2022. Drilling has been going on since July. The hot rock in the so-called Upper Bavarian Molasse Basin is to be used to generate energy. For this deep heat exchanger, a new technology that has so far only been tested in a test facility near Calgary, experts are drilling a large number of horizontal tubes (loops) at a depth of around 4,500 meters. The water, which is fed into the depths, heats up in the rock, which can be up to 170 degrees. This technology could be used to generate heat and electricity from the 120-degree water that rises to the surface.

A large number of media reported on the project, an overview can be found here:
