Peer acceptance for publication in the clinical research literature means that the professional community confirms that the data collection protocol has been correctly applied, the results have been correctly analysed and the conclusions reached are justified. Until they are accepted the trial results are considered to be 'preliminary', and editorial assessors could contest the clinical or analytical procedures adopted and so request that the results reported be reviewed.
Once accepted the study thereby is endorsed as being free of error and becomes part of the research database that future clinical studies can refer to as authoritative fact.
