    Announcement released 04/09/2008

    To capitalise on the changes within the Australian privacy landscape and the publicity surrounding the Australian Law Reform Commission’s review of Australian Privacy Laws (the ASX announcement of 19 Aug 08 refers), Synergy Equities Group Limited (“SYNERGY”, ASX : SYG) is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary Data-inCrypt® has become a foundation member of The Australia and New Zealand Chapter of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) (www.iappanz.org).

    The IAPP (www.iapp.com) is the world’s largest association of privacy professionals. Based in York, Maine, USA, the organisation represents over 5,000 members from businesses, governments and academia across 32 countries. Founded in 2000, the IAPP was established to define, promote and improve the privacy profession globally. The IAPP is committed to providing a forum for privacy professionals to share best practices, track trends, advance privacy management issues, standardise the designations for privacy professionals, and provide education and guidance on opportunities in the field of privacy.

    The formal launch of the IAPP in Australia and New Zealand was timed to coincide with national Privacy Awareness Week (24-30 August 2008), and was centred around a full day conference held in Sydney on 27 Aug 2008, “Privacy in a Dramatically Changing Landscape”, which was attended by Data-inCrypt®.

    The inaugural conference featured high-profile speakers from within the privacy arena, including:
    - Justice Michael Kirby, High Court of Australia;
    - Professor David Weisbrot, President Australian Law Reform Commission;
    - Ms Karen Curtis, Australia’s fourth (and current) Federal Privacy Commissioner;
    - Mr Malcolm Crompton, Australia's third Federal Privacy Commissioner;
    - Dr Phil Burgess, Group Managing Director, Public Policy and Communication, Telstra Corporation;
    - Mr Peter Cullen, General Manager, Trustworthy Computing Group and Chief Privacy Strategist, Microsoft;
    - Mr Peter Coroneos, Chief Executive, Internet Industry Association (IIA);
    - Mr Graham Ingram, General Manager, AusCERT Information Technology Services; and
    - Mr Trevor Hughes, Executive Director of the IAPP.

    Data-inCrypt ® participated in both formal and informal discussions with speakers and other delegates at the conference and is excited to be at the forefront of the privacy profession in Australia, particularly given that SMX secure registered email enables an organisation to meet its obligations under the Privacy Act when transmitting personal data across the Internet.

    SYNERGY is confident that the exposure Data-inCrypt® will gain as a foundation member of The Australia and New Zealand Chapter of the International Association of Privacy Professionals will ultimately lead to significantly increased sales of SMX secure registered email, and looks forward to keeping the market informed.

    Yours faithfully

    Ronald Moir
