    Hi all

Time for us to start moving into the final stage of the current drilling campaign before they start running the logs and doing the flow tests.

    The Basement

This one is an interesting one, the basement or as it is referred to in the mud-logs Embasamento is the final stage.

In tatu1 we got 49 meters of oil shows in this section. The basement is a different play from the Muribeca Fm as far as its a fracture play and porosity doesn't come into it. This means the rock as cracks please see below

    fracture play

    Porosity

The good thing about this kind of play is they don't have to case it due to its solid structure. This means we don't have to worry about perforation and for us this is more important than you might think.

Now here is where it gets interesting
For the long termer's among us and the well researched would all be only to aware of the announcement released on the 19th of August 2008, which states the following.
"Swab testing of the basement test interval (1253 to 1260m) did not return hydrocarbons in the fluid removed from the well during swabbing." Not what you wont to hear in your announcements when there doing the flow testing.
The reason behind the lack of hydrocarbons was believed to be due to the perforation of the casing.
During the perforation stage of flow testing they place and explosive charge down the well to fracture the casing this provides communication between the wellbore and the reservoir formation.

It is believed that when they did the perforation of the casing in the basement that to much charge was used and blow the oil backwards coursing the lack of hydrocarbons.
So this time round they aren't going to run the casings this will have 2 benefits for us
    1. We don't have the worry of the oil being blown backwards
    2. They can test the whole structure.
Anyway thats about it from me

And remember this is an up-dip appraisal so anything can happen
And as always Best of luck to all

    Cheers
