Wow, thanks for that post, what a great story, for the bloke whose life was saved in particular! He was cactus until IV Relenza saved his life. IV Relenza is also being currently used in the US for a woman who has leukemia with Tamiflu resistant swine flu.

Look what else I found from the scary sounding National Biodefense Science Board:
http://www.hhs.gov/aspr/conferences/nbsb/panflu-wg-execrpt-090717.pdf
"If intravenous zanamivir is not further developed by the manufacturer, the US Government should give strong consideration to purchasing the rights and pursuing development under an alternate pathway."
C'mon GSK, develop IV Relenza or else face invasion!
It would be a great option for hospitalised patients even for seasonal influenza. Egads, we have IV antibiotics for hospitalised patients. Why not IV antivirals?
Here are the trials listed that involve Relenza
http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?intr=%22Zanamivir%22
Only one phase 1 trial is using IV Zanamivir.
