I've known mine workers commence contracts who didn't even get a chance to haggle a rate before they were offered money by cos which made their eyes pop out. This was time gone by of course. High salaries were I believe justified by cos because the boom allowed it. Mining was a cash crop and it was all about pulling as much out of the ground as quickly as possible,and when you set the price like our big players did then costs were ballooning and no one cared. There's no more capitalist sector than mining in this country and unfortunately greed got the better of it imo.
